Established in 1980, Gepetto Toy Craft is a New Zealand company specialising in the manufacture of wooden toys for babies.
Their manufacturing process has been perfected through the years to now produce the highest quality product based on traditional European craftsmanship, combining safety and style in a long lasting wooden toy designed to stimulate and entertain.
The wood used in Gepetto's toys is a locally grown sycamore maple, a readily regenerating species they harvest specifically for toy production. Typical of the maple family, this hardwood is non-splintering, strong and durable, and has excellent turning and finishing characteristics.
After about twelve months air drying the milled sycamore is ready for turning on one of Gepetto's wood lathes to produce all the turned components used in their toys. Further processing and finishing, colouring and assembly, are completed in Gepetto's workshop in the Central Otago town of Alexandra, southern New Zealand.
